    Wingaru is a Cammeraigal term which means ‘to think’.

    Wingaru will provide specialised facilities for studying Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Personal Development Health and Physical Education (PDHPE). Importantly, Wingaru will also be the home of six House groups, with new spaces to provide an environment supporting students’ mental health and wellbeing.

    The building has been sensitively and thoughtfully designed and named to reflect the site’s Indigenous heritage, following extensive consultation with First Nations Elders, and unanimously accepted by the College Board and Fr Quyen Vu SJ, the Provincial of the Australian Jesuits.

    The new Science and Technology facility will be one of the largest building endeavours that the College has undertaken since the development of the iconic sandstone Arrupe building which was completed in 1930.

    Building works have been structured around the delivery of the educational program to ensure the continuity of teaching and learning.

    Wingaru will be an innovative, inter-faculty environment featuring:

    • Thirteen new science classrooms and superlabs
    • Eight technology, engineering, applied studies and general learning areas
    • Eight mathematics classrooms
    • A human movement lab and PDHPE learning space
    • Covered outdoor learning areas
    • Six House areas
    • A dedicated Learning Enrichment area
    • First Nations cultural space
    • And what is sure to be a highlight for students, a new canteen.
